Early life

Usain Bolt’s real name is Usain St. Leo Bolt. he was born on 21st August 1986, in Sherwood Content, Trelawny, Jamaica, to Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt. Both parents ran a  grocery store in his town. He went to Waldensian Primary School and he completed his graduation from William Knibb Memorial High School. When he was young he spent most of his time playing cricket and football.

At a very young age, he became the fastest 100-meter runner in his school. During his high school cricket match, his coach noticed his speed on the pitch and asked him to try sprinting and field events. 

He won a silver medal in the 200 meters race during his first annual high school championship. Pablo Mc Neil became his primary coach and encouraged him to focus on improving his stamina and athletic abilities, but Mc Neil was often frustrated by Bolt’s lack of interest and dedication toward the sport.

Career

His first tournament was the IAAF World Youth Championship held in 2001, he didn’t qualify for the finals he was eliminated in the semi-finals. In the same year, he participated in Caribbean Free Trade Association(CARIFTA) games and he clocked his personal best time of 48.28 in 400 meters, he won a silver medal.

In 2002, when Bolt was 15 years old, Bolt became the youngest World-Junior Gold Medalist by winning a 200-meter race at the 2002 World junior Championship in Kingston, Jamaica. He also participated in the Jamaican relay team race and won two silver medals.

In 2003 he won four gold medals in the CARIFTA games, and one gold medal in the World Youth Championship. In 2003, he won a total of five gold medals in different championships. 

By the time bolt became popular in Jamaica. He broke many records and focused on confirming his spot on the Jamaican Olympic Team.

In 2004, Bolt began his professional career under the guidance of his new coach Fitz Coleman. He became the first junior sprinter to run a 200-meter race in under 20 seconds. American colleges offer bolt scholarships to practice and represent their country, but Usain bolt refused then and decided to stay, practice, and represent Jamaica.

In 2005, he was coached under Glen Mills. Bolt started his preparation for upcoming athletics seasons. He qualified for the 2005 world Championship to run under 21, but he suffered from an injury in the finals and finished in last place. Bolt withdrew his name from the 2006 Commonwealth Games as he was suffering from a hamstring injury. At that time he was a good athlete but his injuries were preventing him from being a fit and professional athlete.

In 2008, With all his hard work and dedication he broke the world record of Asafa Powell’s 100 meters under 9.74s, Bolt has set a new world record for 100 meters under 9.72s. 

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Bolt broke his record and set a new world record of finishing the 100-meter race in 9.683s. It was estimated that if Bolt didn’t celebrate early(before the finish line), he would have completed the race in 9.55s. On this bolt stated that “setting a world record is not my priority, the goal was to win a gold medal for my country”. He has won three gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Usain Bolt won five gold medals and two silver medals in the World Championship. He won gold medals at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics games in the 100 meter, 200meter, and 4×100 meter relay races. Usain  Bolt retired in 2017. After his retirement, he wants to pursue a football career, but he announced his retirement in 2019 from all sports.
